New Carrier in the Long-Distance Bus Market: Improved Connection Between Druskininkai and Vilnius

The article presents a significant change in Lithuania’s intercity transport sector.

Starting from August 1, 2024, a new carrier has entered the Druskininkai–Vilnius–Druskininkai route — the small partnership “Contrans” from Druskininkai. This is the first new market player after 30 years of closure in this sector, marking an important step towards increased competition and better services for passengers.

Povilas Čepulis, founder and director of “Contrans,” notes that the company had been aiming to enter the long-distance transport market for some time, but previous tenders were more suited for large carriers. With changes in legal regulations and the emergence of shorter routes, the company chose the Druskininkai–Vilnius–Druskininkai route. This decision not only opens new opportunities for passengers but also contributes to improving regional connectivity.
